At Our 200 Acre Farm, we are committed to growing Australian native plants—not just for their beauty, but for the vital role they play in supporting local ecosystems. Our goal is to create a landscape that thrives naturally, providing food and shelter for pollinators, improving soil health, and enhancing biodiversity.
By focusing on native species, we ensure that our plants are well-adapted to our climate, requiring less water and maintenance than exotic varieties. Many Australian natives flower throughout the year, providing a continuous nectar source for our bees and other pollinators. This is especially important as we expand our apiary, ensuring our hives have diverse and sustainable forage.
We are selecting a mix of flowering trees, shrubs, and groundcovers that can withstand our local conditions, including frost and drought. Plants like grevilleas, bottlebrushes, and native daisies will add bursts of colour while attracting beneficial insects and birds. Native grasses and nitrogen-fixing wattles will help improve soil structure, reducing the need for synthetic fertilisers.
Beyond supporting wildlife, growing native plants also strengthens our farm’s resilience. Their deep root systems help prevent erosion, retain moisture, and build healthy soils—key factors in regenerative farming. As our landscape develops, we aim to create a balanced ecosystem where every plant plays a role in sustainability.
This is just the beginning of our native planting journey. As we establish more species, we look forward to seeing our farm transform into a thriving, biodiverse haven—one that benefits not only us but the environment as a whole.
Stay tuned as we continue planting, learning, and growing alongside the land we care for.
“Native plants are not just plants; they are the heartbeat of the land, connecting soil, water, wildlife, and people.”
