At Our 200 Acre Farm, we believe that a well-planned orchard is more than just a source of fresh fruit—it’s a vital part of our sustainable ecosystem. Our intent is to establish a diverse collection of fruit trees that will support both our needs and those of our bees.
Our goal is to grow a variety of fruit trees, providing a year-round supply of fresh produce while also ensuring continuous forage for our pollinators. By selecting a mix of flowering and fruiting species, we can extend nectar and pollen availability for our beehives, helping to keep our colonies strong and thriving.
We plan to integrate our orchard into a broader regenerative farming system. This means planting companion plants that improve soil health, incorporating mulching techniques to conserve moisture, and avoiding chemical inputs that could harm beneficial insects. Over time, we’ll also experiment with understory crops, such as herbs and native groundcovers, to create a resilient and productive agroecosystem.
Beyond the environmental benefits, our orchard will play a key role in self-sufficiency. Fresh fruit will provide a sustainable food source for our household, with the potential for surplus to be preserved, shared, or sold. As the orchard matures, we envision it becoming a peaceful, shady haven on the farm—a place where bees hum, birds sing, and nature thrives.
This is just the beginning of our orchard journey, and we’re excited to watch it take root and grow. Stay tuned as we select our trees, prepare the land, and bring this vision to life.
“Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.”
