For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a dream – the dream of owning a patch of land in the country where I can connect with the land, grow and be at peace. It wasn’t just any land; it was a vision of a place where the land thrived, where every plant and animal existed in harmony, where sustainability and permaculture principles were the guiding lights. This dream lived with me for a decade, a constant whisper in my thoughts, and it was a dream I was determined to make a reality. As time passed this dream became a shared one and the vision became “our farm”.

The journey has been filled with challenges, sacrifices, and a pursuit of knowledge. For ten years, we’ve researched, saved, and planned for this momentous step. And now that day has arrived. In a little over a week, we will settle on our rural property.
The dream of this property is deeply rooted in the desire for sustainability and permaculture. We believe in the idea that our land could be more than just a place to grow food; it could be a thriving ecosystem where nature worked alongside us. Permaculture, agroforestry and rewilding with the focus on sustainable design, ethical principles, and letting nature guide us, is the perfect framework for realising this dream.

The foundation of our farm will be built upon permaculture principles; aiming to mimic natural ecosystems, creating a diverse landscape of plants and animals that will not only provide for us but also thrive independently. Swales and dams to manage water efficiently, fruit and nut trees planted in guilds to support one another. Composting systems put in place to recycle organic waste and enrich the tired soil.
Sustainability is at the forefront of every decision. Transforming the property from a barren piece overworked land to a thriving ecosystem. The soil becoming rich and fertile, teeming with life. Bees buzzing among the blossoms, chickens scratching and pecking in the orchards, and the pantry stocked with homegrown produce.
Agroforestry and rewilding, with the common goal of environmental conservation will also be explored. Agroforestry combines agriculture and forestry, integrating trees with crops or livestock. It enhances sustainability, biodiversity, and resilience in farming. Rewilding, focuses on restoring natural ecosystems by allowing them to recover, promoting biodiversity and ecological balance, often by reducing human interference.
I am filled with gratitude for the decisions and sacrifices that have led me here. And we can’t wait to step into our new home and start the next chapter.
Join us on the journey..
